Using extra insulation to make up for a foolish colour choice is ecologically irresponsible. The richest 10% of people in the world are responsible for 50% of all greenhouse emissions and it's that sort of "don't care what it costs because I have money" attitude that is at the heart of their vandalism. Also what sort of jerk is hiring someone else to clean their shower and thinks that makes it okay to line the shower with something difficult to clean? How disrespectful to your employee are you trying to be here - deliberately installing something that makes their job worse? Honestly the entitlement some people display in their reasoning is just disgusting.

I don't endorse the whole "It looks cheap because everyone has it" snobbery. Pretty much every western nation house these days also has indoor hot and cold plumbing and electric lights, but nobody's refusing to have them in their house because of that! If it's good and it works, then it's still good and it works even when everyone in the world has it. Choose a style that works for your home and your household. Don't be conned by the cheap snobbery into rejecting something that might work for you just because a lot of other people have decided that thing works for them too.

OMG Shag rugs are back??My parents had shag installed in our house when I was in high school. It fell to me as one of my chores to "rake" the rug every week. I mean RAKE it with an actual RAKE, as in garden rake. The high pile would get smooshed down with people walking on it, so you had to rake it to raise the pile again. Absolutely the most total idiotic waste of time I can think of!! I left home after graduation, partly to get away from that shag rug! And it was Olive Green to boot! UGH...

I agree about the short backsplash but with some expections. I have a short backsplash in recently renovated kitchen. I chose it because i love stainless steel countertops but putting more stainless steel on the backsplash would be too much steel for me. So a short backplash (in steel) gives a sleek and finished look to the counters without too much steel. Also I don't have any upper cabinets so it doesn't look like there's missing backsplash between counter and uppers.

I was 7 when I stood up to get out of the tub and bumped the glass shelf, a sheet of glass laying on two brackets. Cut my foot, 4 stitches. Still have the scare 60 years later. If you are going to have glass shelves ANY where, don't have children.
